Killing The Game

Aja Naomi King is in these streets getting away with murder and glowing!  Since 2014 shes’s starred  in the hit Shonda Rhimes show How To Get Away With Murder, and now she’s the new face of L’oreal Paris.  Aja will be promoting the L’oreal True Match Lumi Glow line.   Aja is a makeup enthusiast who remembers  watching her mother apply L’oreal Paris Colour Riche Lip Colour as a child.   As we can see from her IG feed, being named a spokesperson for a global brand like L’oreal has Aja “shining, shining, shining, shining yeah!”

All this L’Oréal #TrueMatchLumi has me feeling like…😍😍😍 @lorealmakeup

Don’t Let The Pretty Face Fool Ya!

If you’ve got eyes, you can see that Aja is most definitely a beautiful woman.  But that’s not all she is.  While not often portrayed in media, it’s been my experience that many beautiful women are also incredibly bright.  Aja is no exception in that regard.  Like  Lupita Nyongo, Angela Basset, and Sanaa Lathan, Aja earned a Masters in Fine Arts from the Yale University School of Drama.

Essence Magazine Black Women in Hollywood 2017 Honorees

Earlier this year Aja received the honor of being recognized by Essence magazine as a rising star of this new generation of entertainers. She also received a nomination for a 2017 NAACP Image Award for her work in The Birth of a Nation. I guess Aja is shining because 2017 has been about #AllADisWinning!

Changing The Game!

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that L’oreal decided to pick an unambiguously Black woman to promote it’s products.  Ri Ri has forced the whole industry to get on their P’s and Q’s.  She’s got all the established household names scrambling to show love to the women blessed with darker hues.  We did dat!  Rihanna created a product for a demographic that was largely ignored and we showed up and showed out.  Together we changed the game.  It’s also not lost on me that it was another Black woman who put Aja in position to shine.  Just like Rihanna created a shift in the beauty industry, Shonda Rhimes did the same thing in television.  Moral of the story…when we support one another, we all win. And that’s the real GLOW!
