Pitch Perfect star, Anna Kendrick, is ready to trade in her microphone and show choir ensemble for a bushy tail and spandex! Kendrick is ready to suit up and become Marvel’s next big super heroine! Though she’s busy starring in six movies this year including Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Kendrick wants to add Marvel franchise: The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl to her résumé.
Though the franchise is not as well known as other Marvel characters, the comic is popular among critics and has quite a following. The tale behind Squirrel Girl centers around a college freshman who is studying computer science at NYU who befriends squirrels and channels her powers to fight evil. In addition to being able to communicate with other squirrels, Doreen Green (also known as Squirrel Girl) has the ability of super-speed, strength, healing powers and is known to have taken down villains like Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Thanos and Doctor Doom. Her first appearance was in Marvel Super-Heroes vol. 2, #8, a.k.a. Marvel Super-Heroes Winter Special, published January 1992, in a story plotted and drawn by Steve Ditko and scripted by Will Murray.
When asked what hero she would want to be if offered the chance, Kendrick said in an interview with Net-a-Porter,
“My brother sent me a Squirrel Girl comic because he thinks I should [play her]. I don’t know what Squirrel Girl does other than be half squirrel, but I could be half squirrel!”
Fans seem to be on board with the idea of Kendrick taking on the role of Squirrel Girl. One fan took to twitter and posted this picture of what the Get A Job star would like as a super hero!
Though it’s just a concept for now, Kendrick would make one bad ass super heroine.
