We’ve waited long enough, and the collaborative collection between couture fashion house Balmain and retail giant H&M is finally coming into fruition. Balmain, a name synonymous for luxury and trend setting style has been worn on stars like Beyonce, Kayne West and Kim Kardashian. While there isn’t necessarily any one thing their known for, Balmain is particularly noted for their well tailored blazers and jackets which were made popular by fashion icon and King of Pop Michael Jackson. This brand is solely responsible for the resurgence of the 1980’s glamour and military based trends that took prominence in the later part of the decade.
You can thank Balmain creative director Oliver Rousting for all of these things, including the amazing apparel soon to be released in H&M stores nationwide. With the Balmain x H&M collection being what I’m guessing the umpteenth of H&M’s designer collections, I find it highly likely to be the most successful–and in my professional opinion the most stylishly appealing since last year’s Alexander Wang farce. I’m in no way against AW’s aesthetic, but I merely expected the detail and pomp so associated with the upper echelons of luxury fashion. The H&M x Balmain collaboration is sure address (at least temporarily) my lust of luxury fashions.
I’m in favor of the overall content of the collection, but find myself wishing it stayed closer to the prices you see at H&M. Understandably, you’re not going to find a convincing luxury knock-off for $40 bucks. However, I’d rather buy a $600 jacket from Neiman Marcus that’s an actually designer piece then something from a diffusion collection of the same or close to the same price.
