Everyone knows that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. Well for Kim Braud a diamond is no comparison to a girl’s pet or pooch in this case. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Braud relocated to Atlanta with Nationwide Insurance and is currently expanding her brand to open a doggie boutique called “The Bougie Pooch.” The boutique which will launch online September 1st specializes in small dog apparel, accessories and home furnishing items. “I want my boutique to be a Jimmy Choo for dogs “says Braud, “selling a boutique image but with typical price range merchandise”
It seems like Braud has a set image for this doggie boutique. I asked her what would separate her from other dog boutiques and she explained by saying,” I will not only sell merchandise but customer service and the image of a Bougie Pooch.” Braud has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and has worked as a marketing consultant and sales manager for Nationwide, so she clearly can handle the business aspect of her brand and boutique. As far as branding is concerned, Braud lets her Shih Tzu Sydney do that for sure. “He is the key muse and model dog for the company. He’s the ideal Bougie Pooch!” Braud also doesn’t want to stick with one target market and demographic, but instead has multiple audiences to keep business growing. “I definitely will use my existing relationship with the LGBT community. They are really my key target market in midtown Atlanta as well as local apartment and condo dwellers.” Braud also mentioned that she is branching out to pet friendly resorts and hotels. It seems like The Bougie Pooch is doing a lot for a boutique that hasn’t even launched to full completion yet, and even with that Braud wants to go big, as she is hosting the official launch party at the Georgia Terrace hotel located in Downtown Atlanta.
With the success of launching the online boutique, Braud is already planning ahead to open an actual storefront in Midtown Atlanta. “Social media will definitely help brand and build our clientele” says Braud. She plans to use local dogs and owners to promote the store. “They will serve as marketing models for the online store, sort of like an active look book”, she says. Also to expand her brand and clientele, Braud plans to sell large dog handmade Swarovski crystal collars and harnesses once the actual boutique opens. I asked her about her motivation and family/friend support with the boutique. She stated,” They are all very supportive, however they wish I would open the downtown store sooner, but I will wait. I want it to be perfect.” She does everything herself to promote the store, from marketing and advertising to promotions and branding. In addition to all of this, she is the founder of Fabulous Friends in Philanthropy, a nonprofit for homeless girls. Her plan is to employ her girls to teach them entrepreneur and leadership skills. The ambitious business woman and entrepreneur she is, Braud continues to keep The Bougie Pooch first, believing in her brand. I asked Braud where should like to see herself in the next five years. She said, “I want to a successful business woman with a boutique in Atlanta. I am also considering branching out to different markets like Naples, Scottsdale and Miami. Lastly I have to open a boutique back home in New Orleans – it would only be right. “The Bougie Pooch is expected to officially launch its online store September 1st and can be contacted and updated with via instagram @thebougiepooch as well as at www.thebougiepooch.com.
