Money in any relationship is an important factor. Whether you’re causally dating or in a full on relationship this is one of those touchy subjects that must be discussed. For example, I remember the days of my late teens and early 20’s I thought it would be cute to struggle and grow with someone. Along the way I realized my solo struggle on “the come up” was enough. Call me crazy, but it’s a lot of work to be independent and a task to find someone who’s just as driven.
There was this one guy who asked me out on a date and I agreed not because I was interested, but for my stomach. Yup, I sure did! Especially when you’re a college student with no meal plan you have to be creative and make things work however you can. I remember thinking to myself, “Well if a date will fill me up why not go?” Sadly, he had no car and we rode the train. If you’re here in Atlanta than you already know the public transportation is by far the worst and goes absolutely nowhere. After reaching our destination and completing our meals come to find out he had no money to cover him or me. You can only imagine what I was thinking.
I didn’t flip or go crazy on him. I simply paid for the meals and headed myself home back on the train. I have no problem paying for someone if I invited you somewhere, but the fact that he placed me in a compromising situation on the first date let me know exactly whom I was dealing with. After that moment believe that my standards skyrocketed. Oh and let me not forget to mention that this man was a few years older than me too. Never again, lesson learned.
It’s one thing to be in a relationship with some who falls on hard times and another to be plain broke. If he’s broke and plans to stay there I recommend to leave him wherever you found him. How a person spends and manages their money tells a lot about their character. Do not be fooled ladies everything is taken into consideration when dating including; transportation, personal upkeep, and finances.
Good Luck Ladies!
