After a six year hiatus, Grammy award winning rapper, Eve, is back with her greatly anticipated album, Lip Lock. She completed the project independently through her label, The Rib Music, after axing her record deal with Interscope which setback her original 2007 project entitled Here I Am featuring the hit song “Tambourine.”
On Lip Lock, Eve reminds us why we fell in love with her bad girl no-holding-back Ruff Ryder persona. With her signature hard hip-hop beats and rhymes, some might agree, vocally, she delivers harder than most male emcees. Her fourth studio album, is sure to make diehard fans remember the Eve they loved from her debut record. In a recent interview with popular radio morning show, The Breakfast Club, Eve discussed wanting female Mcs to have a stronger voice in Hip Hop. “There needs to be more female rappers” and complimented Nicki Minaj on her hustle in Pop and Hip Hop music.
In Lip Lock, the album flirts with Pop influences with the lyrically motivational, “Make It Out This Town” featuring Gabe Saporta and “Keep Me From You,” featuring Dawn Richard. The first single, “She Bad Bad,” plays off Caribbean influences with Eve’s somewhat cocky vocals overshadowing the song’s less than catchy sound from songs like “Blow Your Mind” and my personal favorite, “Satisfaction.” Nevertheless, Lip Lock features a team of heavyweight artists like Missy Elliott, Chrisette Michele, and Snoop Dogg. Another highlight club banger is the album’s intro, the self-titled track, “Eve,” featuring Miss Kitty. The song has a M.I.A influenced vibe with the rapper’s confident rock star persona delivering a hit her fans are sure to have on repeat! Lip Lock is available for download now!
