Teenear is the Hot New Face of Miami’s Music Scene!
R&B Singer, Teenear is the hot new face of Miami’s most popular Hip Hop label, Slip-N-Slide Records. Being the new face on the music scene may appear like a challenge for most, but not for this fresh spirited young lady! She is ready to take on the industry and amaze the world with her unique pop-urban sound that leaves you rocking in your seat! Kontrol had the pleasure of getting up close & personal to find out more about Teenear and just how amazing this new journey has been for her.
Teenear may be new to the industry but she is far from being new to performing. She started out early singing at church and being involved in dance, acting and playing the piano with ease. We all know that when you grow up in the church singing, it tends to have some pushed influence on what genre of music you may decide to dive into. However Teenear states,
“I don’t want to be stuck in a box as an artist, I want to be able to explore different genres because I just love music in general and there is so much that you can do with different types of music”.
Slip-N-Slide Records is one of the most popular record labels in the beautiful city of Miami, and she shared with us how she came into her record deal with the company.
“I started out singing at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Carol City, and Ted Lucas [CEO of Slip-N-Slide Records] also attends the church as well, so everyone kept telling him that he should hear me perform. We had a conversation about how serious I was taking it, and he told me that if it’s what I want to do, I have to show him that this is what I want to do. So I started a YouTube channel and I did my first cover, “Stay” by Rihanna, and from there on we started working on videos and I finally got Sage The Gemini on my first single, “Friday Nights”.
Being so young in the music industry definitely requires some support on your journey and Teenear stated that her family remains very supportive but when it comes down to friends that can be a little interesting.
“It’s been interesting because my family has always been supportive, but when it comes to friends, I have already lost friends, but I do have that one friend that’s been with me 100% of the time. I know things happen and I don’t take things to heart because I know that it’s just what comes along with this.”
Truly we can relate, because the higher you go up in your career, you will find yourself sadly experiencing the loss of those you thought would remain by your side forever.
So outside of the music, Teenear shared with me what she enjoys doing the most.
“Honestly I just really enjoying sleeping if I can (laughing), if I get to hang outside of school with my friends then that’s cool, but sleep is my number one”.
So what’s difficult about being in the public eye? Teenear had me laughing as she mentioned one of the top most important things any artist must keep in mind before leaving the house.
“Really just making sure that every time you go out, that you’re looking decent (laughing) because every time I have been recognized, I’m looking crazy (laughing).”
I’m sure we all can attest to having those sneak runs to the grocery store and praying nobody sees us in those slippers or that head wrap. She went on to add,
“Another one would be making sure you continue to follow who you are, not what other people are doing. In this industry there are just so many people talking and you just have to make sure that you are listening to the right people. If you listen to the wrong people, it will lead you down the wrong path”.
Teenear spoke briefly on some goals she has set in place for herself this year. “I’m focusing on just really strengthening my voice and performing in front of people. I’m really aiming to have a Grammy by next year, and I really want to get back into acting. I haven’t been able to focus on auditioning recently so that’s something that I’m planning on doing this year also.”
Teenear is currently working on a lot of new music, “I’m putting another song out next month. We just put out “Something Else” and we just shot the video for that.”
Teenear has an amazing personality that matches the energy she puts out in her music.
“I’m different…I am interesting and I’m a really friendly person. I just enjoy life in general. I’m big on positivity. I like when people come into my life and they are positive because that reflects on who you are. I am very spiritual and I put God first in everything. I make sure that whatever I put out is positive and nothing negative. I want people to hear my music and feel happy”.
There’s truly “something else” hitting the music industry heavy as the year continues and that something else happens to be Teenear!
