Givenchy 2018 Pre-Spring ‘Resort’ Collection

Givenchy

Parisian Fashion House, Givenchy, has decided to preview it’s Pre-Spring Collection for 2018. It’s the first collection that we’ve seen from Givenchy after the announcement of their new creative director Clare Waight Keller. The collection consists of clean designs with bold colors that pop.

The city of Rome is the inspiration behind what is referred to as “The Resort Collection”. The designs are clean and bold at the same time. More specifically the colors, every look is monochromatic. However not in the boring “matchy-matchy” sort of way. Each look stands out, partly due to the interesting way that they are constructed and cut. Some critics have pointed out that the designs are similar to ones that were constructed by Italian designer Riccardo Tisci. Who was also the former creative director of Givenchy.

This year Givenchy is opting out of putting on a runway show for Paris Fashion Week. They have decided to give a showroom presentation instead. However, it’s interesting that a Parisian fashion would decide to not participate in what is considered to be the biggest annual Paris fashion event. In addition to the fact that they are revealing this collection months ahead of schedule.

It’s common for fashion brands to plan their designs months or even a year ahead of schedule. That’s just how the fashion world works. It operates on a different calendar than the rest of us. However, unveil a collection before prior to a Fall/Winter collection and Fall Fashion Week is unusual. And Givenchy is not the brand doing this, Italian luxury brand Fendi has decided to unveil some of its designs for its 2018 Spring/Summer Collection as well.

This is the first collection that we’ve seen from Givenchy under Clare Waight Keller. Some people are thinking that this is the brand’s statement to let everyone know that the change of power will not affect their ability to produce amazing clothing. Though, tt’s too early to determine if Clare is up for the task.
