Derrick Rose’s rape case was already sketchy, tragic, and damaging, but now it is becoming a full on circus! Earlier today, Derrick asked the judge presiding over the case to reveal his accuser’s identity. As you know this can sort of be a shot in the dark, as courts usually prefer to keep the identity of rape accusers and victims confidential for more reasons than we care to list.
Derrick feels she does not deserve anonymity. We just wonder if the judge will grant his wish.
We broke the story, the NBA superstar is being sued by a woman using the pseudonym “Jane Doe” — who claims Rose and his friends gang raped her back in 2013.
Typically, the law allows someone who claims to be the victim of a sex crime to file a lawsuit under a pseudonym to protect their privacy rights.
But Rose has just filed new legal docs saying Jane Doe has abused the privilege by going on a “nationwide pretrial media blitz” over the past week … which included phone interviews and a news conference.
“Because Jane Doe and her lawyers are openly pandering to the media on a nationwide blitz tour, Ms. Doe should be precluded from using a pseudonym for any purpose, including media coverage.”
In the docs, Rose accuses the woman of trying to get the case to play out in the court of public opinion so she can get a “large and extortionate settlement payment.”
Personally we do not think the woman should have to reveal her identity. This is a high profile case and she could become a target. There are a number of players involved in this case and they all make millions. It is not unheard of for accusers to be silenced. Derrick is not the victim here, she is. Let’s let him prove his innocence in court. After all her identity will not have a bearing on the verdict!
