Hey Kurvy Kuties!!!
As the Curvy Fashion Editor for Kontrol, I am so excited to share my latest fashion project/collaboration with you! I must admit, I haven’t always been the most stylish person in a room. However, as I continue to evolve as a woman and loving myself more, I am falling more and more in love with fashion. Fashion has allowed me to discover my uniqueness and it allows me to have fun with expressing myself. My fashion is freedom! Fashion can also be a bit costly, which is why I wanted to share my story on how I was able to style one garment three ways.
A few months ago, I had the pleasure to meet a vibrant and rising designer located here in Atlanta. Her name is Chanique “Cha” Quinones and the name of her brand is called Geek Junky. When I tell you that Cha is one of the most cool, talented, and down to earth designers that I have met in a very long time. When we met, we instantly hit it off and knew that we had to collaborate! I love Cha’s free spirit and how she creates custom one of a kind garments. I also love that there is no limit to her creativity.
If you are unfamiliar with Geek Junky, this is definitely a brand to start paying close attention too. Geek Junky is a unconventional line that’s inspired by unconventional fabrics and influenced by Japanese Harajuku culture. The brand uses products that are usually recyclable, renewable, and reuse-able to create functional one of a kind up-cycle clothing and accessories.
When I told Cha that I was interested in rocking one of her garments to show it styled three different ways, she was instantly on board. She sent me over a picture of a beautiful custom long striped maxi skirt with a matching hood and cape. She told me that she made this skirt out of curtains. (skillz) As soon as I saw this skirt, I was so excited to style it! This was the perfect skirt to style for spring because stripes are trending, and I loved the black/rustic orange neutral color of the skirt. Check out how I styled the skirt below….
Day, Play, and Slay looks featuring custom skirt from Geek Junky
Look 1: Day
Curvy girls don’t be afraid to show a little skin!! I had fun pairing this Geek Junky custom skirt with a black sheer crop top from Fashion To Figure. This is a relaxed and chic look perfect for a lunch date or brunch.
Look 2: Play
What’s fashion without having a little fun…… I enjoyed playing with this look rocking the custom Geek Junky skirt, paired with a red long sleeved “Fierce” statement shirt from Lane Bryant’s Livi Active line. I also had to add a touch of “swagg” to this look by adding the matching detachable Geek Junky hood. Let’s just say that this is officially my “Dope Girl” stance!
Look 3: Slay
When you are confident in your own skin, you Slay! This is my last look rocking the custom skirt from Geek Junky. For this look, I paired the skirt with a basic white tank top and added a khaki jacket with laced sleeves from Ashley Stewart. This is one of my go-to styles, I feel you can never go wrong with a cute skirt, tank top and jacket. I love jackets and blazers, they seem to add that extra pop of chicness to complete your outfit!
What are your thoughts on my three looks??? Do you have a favorite? I so enjoyed collaborating with Cha from Geek Junky, she is just a dope human being! Make sure to follow her on social media @GeekJunky .
Don’t forget, ” Always rock your confidence, it looks good on you!”
