Magic mirror, on the wall – MAC Cosmetics is the smartest one of all. Soon magic mirrors will be in more than just your fairytale dreams. MAC Cosmetics has partnered with Modiface and Perfect Corp to elevate their customers’ beauty experience and create a virtual try-on [makeup] mirror that will provide digital makeovers. With a start of 29 eye looks to virtually try, you can also finally find your best foundation shade; without wasting money or having that one employee experiment on your face.

But just how good is this “magic mirror”, and will it even be accurate?

Living in the technological age of 2017, we’ve all had our experiences with the virtual-everything. However, what makes this collaboration unique is the science and technology of its 3D facial feature tracking. The 3D facial tracker is so accurate because it has the ability to precisely measure; and follow live facial movements with its 68 distinctive elements. From identifying to beautifying, its technology will be able to work with your skin features (acne, texture, wrinkles, etc.). As well as your: head position, lip and eye edges, iris size and location.

A fraction of a pixel for the entirety of your face will be measured 30-times per second. According to Modiface, ”based originally on research at Stanford University, Face AI SDK is one of the most precise real-time facial video tracking and analysis technologies of the world.”

And they have the track record to prove it.

Modiface has already worked with over 70 of your favorite brands, like: Estee Lauder, L’Oreal, Avon, Urban Decay, and my favorite Sephora. Sephora has multiple ways that they use Modiface. Customers have a way to: download an interactive app, play with looks via their web browser, and even had an in-store experience with their “magic mirror”. But, unlike Sephora, MAC will make their magic mirror more accessible and located in many of their brick and mortar stores in the US and globally.

MAC is giving us the customer service of our dreams.

MAC Cosmetics is ready to make you the most beautiful 1000 times more without the hassle of trying on makeup, physically. No more reasons to become an evil queen of frustration, because their new “magic mirror” will do all of the work for you. As soon as early 2018, you can expect to encounter your first “magic mirror” in a MAC store near you. “We are excited to bring Virtual MAC to our freestanding stores, first to the U.S., and then globally”; exclaims Tim Tareco, SVP global creative, visual merchandising and store design for MAC. “We believe this will be a game-changing addition to our stores.”

Do you agree?
