I never listen to a new album based on radio play or popularity but by the character of the artist. When the blog sites began to run the stories of what was going on with MJB and her estranged husband. Myself like so many others thought that it was rising tension between the married couple because of business and lie, then Mary dropped “Thick of It, ” and the world heard the pain in her voice and it became clear that another woman was involved. There was trouble in paradise and Mary was speaking through her music , and ready to share the same emotions that so many women go through, but can’t put into words with her fans. Mary J. Blige “Strength of a Woman” is a true testament to the power that women possess and how pain is never lasting.
Set Me Free, is one of those tracks that make you reminisce about how bad a person can treat you and you just sit and take the disrespect because of time, other people opinions, or complacency. When Mary spoke those lyrics: “There’s a special place in hell for you, you gon’ pay for what you did to me, I’ma tell you ’cause the truth will see me free, oh.” You could feel that she was living in a personal hell that she couldn’t digest because the pain and embarrassment were too unbearable. Don’t feel too sorry for Mary, she tapped into her power and decided to walk away from the pain of the past and let it all go. This album is the true definition of the strength of a woman because women can always find their peace after the storm no matter how dark it gets.
How is the album doing you ask? Well According to Billboard, Mary J. Blige crowns the R&B Albums chart as her latest release, Strength of a Woman, arrives on the May 20-dated tally with 78,000 equivalent album unites earned in the tracking week ending May 4, according to Nielsen Music. The set simultaneously becomes her 20th career entry on both the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (bowing at No. 2) and the Billboard 200 (No. 3). Blige’s Billboard 200 entrance marks her highest-charting effort since 2010, when Stronger With Each Tear debuted at No. 2.
The R&B Albums chart ranks the most popular R&B albums of the week based on multi metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). It is one of Billboard’s numerous genre-specific album charts that rank the popularity of albums by equivalent album units.
