Queen Latifah Set to Star In New Lee Daniels Pilot

Queen Latifah

All hail the Queen!

After slaying her role of The Wizard of Oz in NBC’s production The Wiz Live! which was a modern-day take on the 1970’s classic The Wiz (which starred Diana Ross and Michael Jackson), Queen Latifah is already gearing up for her next role. The Oscar nominated actress will be starring in a brand new Lee Daniels’ pilot about an untitled girl group according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Reportedly, the project will be written, created and directed by Lee Daniels, centering on three young women who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the industry, and the choices they will face along the way to success and stardom. The outlet reports:

Queen Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who boasts an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls — even though she doesn’t approve of their musical aspirations. After a nationwide search, newcomers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady have joined the project as the members of the group.

This sounds like a TLC/Destiny’s Child inspired mash-up. Who’s going to be watching it with me?

Beyond the words, lies a young woman… A young woman filled with drive, determination, pride, passion, and an insatiable hunger for more. A young woman who is a self-proclaimed artist, but not in the sense that she can paint a mural. She’s a verbal artist who paints pictures with words. Her beauty is more than skin deep, it lies within the lines of her words. And she’s making a name for herself as your new favorite writer.
