There has been a new movement brewing over the last few years. That movement is the embracing of women empowerment. 2017 alone has been the year of the woman with the eye opening drop of Beyoncè’s “Lemonade” album. The year of the woman has also been displayed with Amber Rose spending another year celebrating her sexuality. Lately, women have been making conscious efforts to empower other women. We have also spent countless hours teaching their girls that they can do anything, and to love the skin that they are in. Then walks in actress Halle Berry, and just like that the entire movement goes down the toilet. According to Halle, woman can do everything except portray James Bond in a film.
That’s right folks, Halle has officially set back an entire gender fifty years. Recently, the former Bond girl expressed her thoughts on women portraying James Bond in the popular franchise. Halle told Entertainment Tonight,
“I want women to be tough but I don’t know if Bond should be a woman. I mean, that series is steeped in history, you know from Ian Fleming’s stories. I don’t think you can change Bond to a woman.”
I’m not sure why Halle feels so strongly about women not portraying Bond in films, because it’s not like woman haven’t portrayed iconic male characters before and vice versa. It’s a little disheartening to know that Halle feels that a woman can’t fill the infamous spy’s shoes. Halle also told Entertainment Tonight,
“ We can create a new Bond character that’s a woman, and give her a new name, based on that theory, but I don’t know if Bond should be a woman.”
So, what are your thoughts? Do you feel that a woman could portray the iconic James Bond? What woman do you think could pull off the role? Let me know in the comments.
