Weekend Inspiration: Keep your Abs in Check on your Days Off!

Aaah, the weekend. Great times for all my vices: sleeping late, drinking hard, junk food and trashy tv (don’t judge me!). However, summertime, upcoming get togethers (where I will surely see folks I haven’t laid eyes on in years), and sexy Atlanta events have forced me to clean up my act. The damage I can do in one weekend can undo two work weeks of good behavior. How do I navigate my healthy, fit lifestyle on my chill days? I try to stick to these tips like bible verses. Plan it out. Just like you etch out every minute of your workday during the week, plan your weekend routine. If I left it all to chance, I might end up in a Ciroc stupor the whole time. Have some fun sure, but get your cardio and water-drinking in. I usually go for a run or gym excursion at 10am on Saturday and Sunday after an early church service. This way I still have the entire day to enjoy myself and run errands. Another easy way to plan for success: check out the menu of the restaurant before going out to eat. You will give yourself some time to look over the menu, find a choice that aligns with your health goals, and research its nutritional content. Most restaurants have the info built into their website for easy navigation.

Match water intake with alcohol intake. For every glass of wine, I have a glass of water too. This helps tremendously with hangovers and the post-drinking pudge the next day. I cannot speak for anyone else, but this works for me because it keeps me from binge drinking, plus keeps me hydrated and clear-headed the next day. Your skin will retain its luster too and not look sallow as a night of partying may sometimes cause skin to do.

Don’t oversleep. Staying bed sounds amazing, but oversleeping can throw off your week. I try to give myself an extra hour of sleep on Saturday and Sunday but anymore would cause me to be groggy for the entire next pay cycle.
