Recently the actress sat down with the Associated Press and stated:

“I can’t please everybody, can’t make everyone happy,” she told the Associated Press, “but what I can do is work really hard and just continue to show her legacy. That’s all I’m focused on is really, really portraying her in the best light possible. That’s all it’s about.”

Aside from the backlash of fans it’s no secret that Aaliyah’s family is also displeased with the decision of Lifetime. Based on the sights of having the biopic in theaters oppose to the small screen The Haughton’s trying all they can to halt the project. Spearheading the decision is the falling singer’s uncle Barry Hankerson who recently spoke to TMZ.

Coleman seems to be a little jaded by the response and went to her twitter and wrote, “I’m just a 17 year old girl who got to play one of her biggest inspirations #positive.”

Aaliyah’s Camp went to twitter and wrote:

However ,we do ask that you are respectful to the artist playing the role, for they may not fully have or know the details about this role

Nonetheless, if the film does continue with production we can only wish Zendaya the best. A film like this will have enough eyes on it to judge from every direction with scrutiny.
