The Tale of a Man Cub–Disney’s Jungle Book is The Story To See!

The Jungle Book is one the most beloved stories a child can ever read. The tale of Mowgli (Neel Sethi), a “man cub” raised in the jungle by wolves is legendary and even in 2016 just as exciting and as riveting as the day Rudyard Kipling completed its first draft. Thanks to the media giant we know and love as Disney, the latest rendition of this tale is live action and it looks amazing! The film shows Mowgli as he struggles to learn the ways of the wolves.

His adoptive mother, Raksha (Lupita Nyong’o), dotes on him but their leader, Akilah insists he not resort to his “tricks” and focus on being a wolf and falling in line with the pack. With Bagheera watching over him as well, his life seems simple, until a drought draws out Shere Khan (Idris Elba)–a bengal tiger with a deep hatred for mankind. Feared and loathed by the other animals for his cruelty and deadliness, he demands the pack hand Mowgli over to him at the end of the drought. Instead, they opt to return him to the Man Village, protected by the feared and revered, “Red Flower” (fire). Although Mowgli resists, he soon learns Shere Khan means business! It will take all of his tricks and a helping hand from a few friends to get this man cub out of the jungle and away from the tiger’s claws.

Disney has been adapting many of its animated films into live action features. However, none of them compare to this film. You really get the sense of just how dangerous and hard it is for Mowgli to be a human in a realm dominated by superior beasts. Even more so I love how they incorporated the songs, Bear Necessities and I Wanna Be Like You! Whether you’re four or sixty-four this is a movie the entire family can enjoy, so be sure you check it out. After all it’ll be good to (singing) “forget about your worries and your strifes” for at least an hour or two!

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, where it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -Michael Jonvier
