An “UnSung” Hit–“Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story!”

When it comes to biopics perhaps other networks should be taking notes from TVOne! Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story is undoubtedly a hit! The film, starring as Teyonah Parris (Starz’s Survivor’s Remorse, Dear White People) as singer, Miki Howard, details the rise, fall, and comeback of the once dynamic diva as she survives abandonment, rejection, domestic violence, and drug abuse. TVOne’s critically acclaimed series, UnSung gave us a glimpse of the factors that led to Miki’s decline, but this film really goes into detail on her life. You would never imagine she has gone through so much, and still remains the powerhouse she is today.

Teyonah Parris is truly an amazing actress who we pray will get all the fame and opportunities the limelight of Hollywood can spare. She truly became Miki Howard in this film. We felt every scene, no matter how joyous or heart wrenching. There is not a crack in her acting! We were surprised to learn that Miki shared such a strong romance with the late and great singer, Gerald Levert. Darius McCrary of Family Matters fame is equally as good as Gerald. He really got across the strong connection the two of them shared with each other; and just how instrumental he was in saving her life. Rounding out the cast is LisaRaye McCoy (Single Ladies, The Players Club, All Of Us), Gary Dourdan (Different World, Being Mary Jane), and Chaka Khan’s “lookalike” biological daughter, Milini Khan. Milini actually plays her mother, revealing Chaka’s own drug abuse and role in Miki’s addiction.

Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story is definitely the biopic to see and we really hope TVOne will pick more of its UnSung stories to do features on.  Be sure you check your local listings for showtimes!

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, where it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -Michael Jonvier
