Beyoncé has taken the year 2016 with a bang and keeps fans on their toes! Not only did she surprise us with a new single “Formation” the day before her guest performance at the Super Bowl, did a collaboration with Top Shop and gave us the “Ivy Park Collection, and graces the May cover of Elle Magazine worldwide.
Let’s not forget Bey’s tour, The Formation World Tour, which has a start date of April 27, 2016. Fans have been going crazy wondering when Beyoncé was going to drop her new album. Of course has Beyoncé does she drops music in multiple ways that reminds fans why she is on top and remains there. From secretly dropped albums, secret singles before their performance to now a New HBO Special, Lemonade.
If you really thought Beyoncé was going on a new tour without new music you must have forgot, she told y’all, SHE SLAYS! Lemonade is more than just an HBO special but it is her much anticipated album, another visual album at that. The track list is as follow:
Pray You Catch ME
Don’t Hurt Yourself Ft. Jack White
6 Inch Ft. The Weeknd
Forward Ft. James Blake
Freedom Ft. Kendrick Lamar
Lemonade only has a few featuring artists, with Jack White, The Weeknd, James Blake, and Kendrick Lamar. This is Beyoncé’s second visual album and the first solo album she has released solely available through streaming. Lemonade has a strong chance to shatter all current streaming records.
Throughout the special, different words such as: denial, anger, apathy, and more, flash across the screen as Beyoncé bares her heart and soul for all the world to see and hear. This visual album is overflowing with creativity, art, film and of course new music. What it also has is everyone around the world speculating. Her lyrics leads the BeyHive to believe that this album revolves around her relationship with none other than her husband, Jay-Z. These speculations come from the narratives and lyrics such as:
“This is your final warning: You know I give you life. You try this s–t again, you gon’ lose your wife.”
“So what are you gonna say at my funeral now that you’ve killed me? Here lies the body of the love of my life, whose heart I broke without a gun to my head. Here lies the mother of my children both living and dead. Rest in peace my true love, who I took for granted…”
Along with so many more controversial statements.
The visual album included cameos from tennis champion Serena Williams, husband and daughter Jay-Z and Blue Ivy, father Matthew Knowles, protégés Chloe and Halle Bailey and rapper Ingrid. Zendaya, Amandla Stenberg, Quvenzhané Wallis and Chantelle Winnie also made appearances throughout! Not only did these celebs make cameos but Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown’s mothers Sybrina Fulton and Lezlie McFadden held up photos of their slain sons, as well as the mother of Eric Garner.
Lemonade can possibly go down as Beyoncé’s most powerful and impactful project thus far. Beyoncé has not only made music with Lemonade but she is making a difference and taking a stand. Word on the street is that we could be in store for another album later this year but with Beyoncé who knows.
